Neils Kalk is a Dutch illustrator and collage artist based in Berlin. He graduated from Minerva Art Academy then moved to Rotterdam where he found his first jobs in children’s media, animation and commercial illustration. He was based in Rotterdam for 10 years then moved to Berlin where he began to focus on a more traditional way of working by creating his own artworks by drawing on found paper and making hand-cut collages from vintage photo books. I found Kalk’s designs really clever, he contrasts fiction with reality. He creates his own characters from pre-loved materials and places them in abstract environments.I think I was drawn to Kalk's designs because, well, I really like collages and also I found they had quite a bit of humour to them.
